On Monday, March 31, Cricket West Indies (CWI) made some shocking decisions after their quarterly press conference. In one of their decision, middle-order batter Rovman Powell was removed as the side’s T20I captain. This decision not only came as a surprise for the fans and cricket buffs, but also caught several eyeballs, garnering criticism on the decision.
It is to be noted that Rovman Powell has been the captain of the side since May 2023. Under his leadership, he had guided the side to home series victories against India, England and South Africa. He also led the side in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 and played a key role in the team’s rise from ninth to fifth position in ICC T20I Rankings.
Injustices towards players continues: Dwayne Bravo rips into CWI for removing Rovman Powell
The decision did not sit well with former Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who is currently with the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), serving as their mentor. Taking to social media, Bravo hit back at CWI and wrote, “@windiescricket once again you guys prove to the people of the Caribbean and the cricket world that the injustices towards players continues!”
“As a former player and a fan of WI cricket this is easily one of the worst decisions ever @ravipowell52 taking over captaincy when our T20 team was in 9th spot and was able to move up to 3rd sport in the rankings and this is how you guys repay him the bad treatment towards players when would it Stop! This is so sad on all levels..make it make sense! SMH #JusticeForRP," read the entire post on Bravo’s Instagram.
