In a big update just days ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh has suffered a big setback as their fast bowler Ebadot has been ruled out for the Asia Cup 2023. The continental tournament which will be played in the 50-over format for the first time post 2018, will begin on August 30 with the final set to be played on September 17 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
With a week left for the tournament, Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain has been sidelined with a knee injury. The 29-year-old, who has been a crucial member of the Bangla Tigers sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the recent ODI series against Afghanistan. However, the prime pacer underwent a six-week rehabilitation, followed by multiple MRIs and it has been revealed that his fitness still possesses concern.
“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on Asia Cup,” BCB Chief Sports Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury was quoted by ICC.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib to replace Hossain in Asia Cup 2023 squad
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has however named medium pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib as his replacement for the 50-over continental tournament. The 20-year-old has picked 57 and 22 wickets in 37 List A and 12 First Class matches respectively.
