Erik ten Hag, the manager of Premier League Manchester United, has vowed to reinvent Red Devils and in his quest to revamp the English club he is making sure of leaving no stone unturned. According to fresh reports, Manchester United manager Erik Tan Hag instructed the players to run for 13.8km as punishment after suffering an embarrassing defeat against Brentford.
Brentford players ran approximately 13.8km during their 90-minute contest with Manchester United and the fact irked Hag. Notably, Manchester United manager too joined his players and matched their steps by running over the full 8.5-mile distance. Hag cancelled a day off and ordered players to report for duty at the club's Carrington training base just 24 hours after a disappointing loss.
However, Hag taking some responsibility on his own shoulder, joined his players to run along with them and inspired the whole bunch of players who responded by beating arch-rivals Liverpool 2-1 at the Old Trafford on Monday night. Manchester United players ran a combined distance of 109.4km over the 90 minutes almost 14km more than they had managed nine days earlier. It is being claimed that the United players were raged when they discovered about their punishment for the no-show at Brentford would be an 8.5-mile run.
"But seeing their manager running with them and admitting some blame on himself inspired many in the camp. It was clear that he was not ready to take all the blame for the performance. Ten Hag also felt he had to show that he also felt culpable. It was a tough run for the players - but it was even more grueling for Erik - and they were impressed," claimed a source as per reports.
Notably, the win against Liverpool on Monday was the first under Erik as United climbed to 14th position in the points table. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford were on the scoresheet as United defeated Liverpool.
