On Wednesday, November 27, during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) clash between Tamil Nadu and Baroda at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Vijay Shankar smashed three consecutive sixes against Hardik Pandya. The incredible display of power-hitting happened during the latter stages of Tamil Nadu’s innings, which helped post a big score of 221/6 on the board only for Baroda to chase it down on the last ball with three wickets in hand.
During Tamil Nadu’s innings, Vijay Shankar was on song with the bat against Hardik Pandya, who’s tactic of delivering slower balls into the pitch didn’t work at all. Shankar tonked the first six off Pandya over the deep mid-wicket region before creaming the second six over long-off, while the third consecutive six was a flat-batted smash, which went over the rope to the left of the long-on fielder.

Apart from Vijay Shankar’s 42 off 22 with four maximums, all the other batters in the Tamil Nadu lineup got into double figures with a strike-rate in excess of 150 as Narayan Jagadeesan scored a fifty, while Lukman Meriwala picked up three wickets. In the run chase, Baroda batters were just as good as their opposing counterparts, most prominently Hardik Pandya, who redeemed himself with 69 off 30 with four fours and seven maximums, to play a key role in his team’s win.
