India’s emerging badminton star Priyanshu Rajawat expressed his gratitude towards coach Pullela Gopichand. World ranked 28, Rajawat also opened up on his way of dealing with negativity and said that he doesn’t read or watch anything after losing a game. The 22-year-old rose to prominence after being a part of India’s historic 2022 Thomas Cup-winning team. Since then, he has been a regular name when it comes to being India’s reliable representative at several major tournaments.

Recently, the Dhar native defeated a senior player Lakshya Sen in the opening round of India Open 2024. India’s potential representative at the Paris Olympics 2024, Rajawat feels that listening to what people are saying would affect his game in the next match. The 22-year-old spoke to SportsTiger and said, “After losing a game, I don’t pay attention to people’s opinion. It is because I kno w doing so would put me under pressure to do good in the next match.”

He added, “It’s easy to speak from outside, but only an athlete has to deal with the real pressure. I just aim to do my best, and when I fail in a few matches, I just prepare myself for the next one.”

He has contributed the most in my life: Rajawat on Pullela Gopichand

Speaking about the influence and contribution of his coach and mentor Pullela Gopichand, Rajawat said, “I have been with sir since eight years of age, and he has contributed the most to my success.” He continued, “I wouldn’t have been able to play at this level if it was not for him. I shall always be very thankful to him. He has contributed the most in my life and I hope it to remain the same.”

Over the years, the Orleans Masters 2023 winner has become a promising name in the world of badminton. Once a lanky kid from the lanes of Madhya Pradesh has now become an inspiration to many in his hometown. The Dhar boy shared a special message to those who look up to him and said, “Whatever you want to do, do it with your passion.” He believes that hard work always pays off and advises youngsters to not give up during tough times.
