In the age of T20Is where there is hardly a place for an anchor in a team, Virat Kohli has been criticized for doing it too often. The Indian batting stalwart has been drawing flak for his less-than-expected strike rate (although he is striking at 148 in IPL 2024). The likes of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been dismantling bowling attacks for fun which has raised the level of expectations from other openers.
Kohli, who has been opening the batting for RCB since the start of the new season has scored 542 runs in 11 matches at an average of 67.75 and has struck at 148.08. This is better than Jos Buttler who is considered as an explosive batter. However, despite scoring consistently and at a decent strike rate, there is a lot of debate about his approach.
There is nothing wrong: Brett Lee on Virat Kohli’s strike rate
Many cricket experts have raised their concerns but Australian bowling legend Brett Lee seems least concerned about Kohli’s scoring rate. The former fast bowler feels that Kohli is having a wonderful tournament. Speaking at the launch event of Australian Avocado in India at the Australian High Commission, Lee shared his remarks about Kohli.
“Well, there is nothing wrong with Virat Kohli’s strike rate, he is striking at 148. I never said that (he is playing the anchor role too often), he has got no issues with his strike rate. I know it is being said but personally, I think he is having a wonderful tournament,” said Lee to Ritesh Pathak of SportsTiger on the sidelines of the launch event.
Lee feels Indian cricketers can incorporate Australian Avocados into their diet
The Australian pacer also talked about the importance of incorporating Australian Avocados, a fruit that has emerged as a major source of nutrition lately into everyone’s daily diet. Brett Lee said that he has himself been a consumer of this fruit and the Indian pacers as well as the athletes can incorporate it in their diet. He also joked about sending a crate to the Indian team after the T20 World Cup.
Lee claimed that Australian Avocados are a superfood that can help cricketers achieve the fitness required for the modern-day game. He also cited Virat Kohli’s example while explaining the paradigm shift in the fitness of the Indian cricket team.
“India is right now the powerhouse of cricket and you see someone like Kohli who is so fit and so healthy. So the game has changed not just in cricket but in general. It has become a lot more health-conscious here in India. So, I think with this superfood, avocado coming from Australia where we have the best produce, to inject that into a sustainable diet can give that extra per cent,” Brett Lee said.
Notably, Australian Avocados launched in India on Thursday. The brand claims that it is committed to delivering premium quality avocados to consumers worldwide. Australian Avocados are grown in the pristine regions of Australia and are known for their exceptional taste, creamy texture, and nutritional value. Lee is the brand ambassador and has been associated with them since the start.
