Indian cricket fans lauded ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin after he completed his half century in the first Test against Bangladesh. On September 19, India kicked off the first Test against neighbours at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Test marked the beginning of the Test season for the two-time WTC finalists. The match saw India get off to a disappointing start and found themselves on the ropes at 176 for six at tea on the opening day.
While names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant failed to do much for the side, Ravichandran Ashwin kept his calm and registered a thundering fifty. The local boy came up with another half century and gave the side some stability in difficult situation. It goes without saying that Ashwin’s fifty not only helped his side in dire times but also gave hope to the fans in the first Test against a lower-ranked side.
