After the eliminating the mighty United States, the Swedish Women's team defeated Japan 2-1 to reach the semifinals of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. Playing at the Eden Park, the Blågult dominated the first half with some incredible overall play but failed to capitalise on their chances. But in the 32nd-minute, Amanda Ilestedt found the back of the net after the Japanese defence blocked away three Swedish attempts and the the ball fell to the star defender, who finished off a scrappy goal.

After getting the advantage, the Swedes ran riot along with a few Japanese counter attacks as the first half ended 1-0. Building on this lead, the  Blågult  found their second goal after Japan's  Fuka Nagano had a hand-ball and recevied a penalty in 52nd minute.  Filippa Angeldahl stepped up to deliver a clincal penalty to make the score 2-0.

The Japanese team finally found their scoring opportunity, 24 minutes later, but like the trajectory of this match, Riko Ueki missed the spot kick and went on the ground with disbelief. With the game slipping away, Japan found a 87th goal, but failed out to find a equaliser as Sweden clinched the semifinal spot to face Spain on August 15.
