With India’s neighbouring country Bangladesh witnessing massive turmoil after protests escalated to reform quota system, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also forced to resign from the position and fly out of the country with immediate effect. After she flew out of Bangladesh, while her house was vandalised, former Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza’s house was also set on fire.
According to a report published by The Dhaka Tribune, the former cricket captain’s house was vandalised by a large mob, which is situated in the Narail constituency of the Khulna District of the south-western part of the country. However, the citizens attacked the houses of the ruling part, the Awami League, Mortaza’s house was also targeted as he is the Member of Parliament from the Narail-2 constituency. The former Bangladesh cricketer was re-elected earlier this year as a candidate for the Awami League.
The videos of Mashrafe Mortaza’s house set on fire is doing rounds on social media with several people accumulating outside the house as it is being burned down.

Speaking of the 40-year-old former cricketer, Mortaza was elected as a MP from the Narail-2 district in 2019 and he regained his seat in the general elections this year. Talking about his cricket records, the 40-year-old is often considered as the greatest captain of Bangladesh. He is the most successful captain in ODIs, winning 50 of the 88 matches that he captained in.
Mortaza has taken 389 wickets across formats and is only second to Shakib Al Hasan in the list of all-time highest wicket-takers for Bangladesh. Batting at the lower middle-order, Mashrafe Mortaza scored 2955 runs across all formats, which includes six Tests, 220 ODIs and 54 T20Is.
