Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the most followed franchises in the Indian Premier League. Despite craving for a maiden title win, the Bangalore based franchise is always regarded as one of the top contenders for lifting the prestigious trophy. Several players had the privilege to lead the franchise in the cash-rich league, but Virat Kohli led the squad for almost a decade and served at his best capacity since 2013.

As Kohli announced his decision to quit captaincy in the previous edition and AB de Villers decided to hang his boots, the franchise had no option but to pick a new skipper for the upcoming season. According to reports, former South African captain Faf du Plessis is all set to carry Kohli's legacy and soon will be announced as the next official captain of RCB. As per source-based information, the franchise was considering two names for the role.

"Glenn Maxwell and Faf were the top two preferred options on which franchise was brainstorming over. But, as Maxwell is set to miss out on the first few matches due to his commitments with the national team, the franchise has decided to go on with Faf," according to a source close to RCB's decision making body.

Earlier, Dinesh Karthik's name was also speculated but Faf having experience of leading his national squad added edge to his resume. While Maxwell will miss the first few games due to his scheduled wedding, Faf, having retired from international cricket, will be available for the entire season of IPL 2022.
