While the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is underway in the Indian subcontinent, the host nation saw another tragedy unfold on Monday, October 23. In a massive fire in Mumbai, one of the venues of the Cricket World Cup 2023, former IPL cricketer Paul Valthaty lost his sister and nephew.
However, the fire was not reportedly life threatening, it took an uncertain turn, claiming two live from the family of the former IPL cricketer. Glory Valthaty, aged 43 and her six-year-old son Joshua were the two causalities in the fire which broke out in a housing society in Borivali West on Monday. As reported by the Hindustan Times, the deadly ablaze spread from the first-floor kitchen of Flat 121 to the fourth floor in Veena Santoor CHS.
Reportedly, apart from the causalities, house helps sustained major burns and are in the MICU ward at the Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. One of the house helps named Rajeshwari Bhartare, aged 24 has sustained 100 percent burns, with the fireman also sustaining some injures.
“In that one hour, the blaze took an ugly turn. If we had been informed earlier, it could have been controlled. The first-floor kitchen was in flames,” PR Parulekar, a senior fire official told the media as quoted by Hindustan Times.
