Formula 1 announced today that they will be retaining the Hungarian Grand Prix until 2032, extending the existing deal till 2027 for five more years. The new agreement solidifies the Hungaroring as a staple in the F1 calendar and allows an influx of significant investments for a new pit building and main grandstand. The refurbishment will take steam in the coming years.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place this weekend, and an expected 300,000 fans, which is up from the 290,000 that attended in 2022. This year’s edition will be especially significant for Hungarian F1 fans as it marks the 20th anniversary of Zsolt Baumgartner’s debut in F1 at the Hungaroring, the only Hungarian driver to compete in the sport. 


F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said, “It is great news to announce the extension of the Hungarian Grand Prix for an additional five years as we return for another action-packed weekend at the Hungaroring. It is a very special circuit next to the incredible city of Budapest and one all of the drivers and our fans look forward to on the calendar.”



Domenicali expects renovations to be complete by 2026


Domenicali added that he was ‘proud’ to extend the track’s stay in F1 and that the renovations are expected to be world-class and completed in three years. He said, “Fittingly, the updates to our famous circuit – which include renovations to our Main Paddock Building, Main Grandstand and Spectator Zones – are expected to be completed by 2026. It will be a source of great satisfaction to host the teams and fans, who will always be our main priority, at a world-class venue that will reflect the high standards you come to expect for an F1 race weekend.”

Many famous drivers have recorded notable wins at the Hungarian Grand Prix over the years, including Lewis Hamilton (who holds the record for most wins with eight), Fernando Alonso, as well as victories for Daniel Ricciardo (2014) and the first win for Esteban Ocon in 2021. 2022 champion Max Verstappen will look to win consecutively during this year’s edition of the Grand Prix.
