The Formula 1 authorities have announced a new deal for the Belgium Grand Prix which will see the iconic Spa-Francorchamps Circuit continue to host the race until the 2025 calendar. The FIA announced a one-year extension in the new deal for the Belgium GP on Friday, 13 October 2023.
Holding a rich history, the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit has hosted 56 Grand Prix since its first race in 1950. The Spa also boasts of the longest circuit in the current calendar, which stands 7.000km long. The track at the spa has undergone several developments in recent times which also includes its capacity being increased to 10,000 with the introduction of two new stands.
“Spa is synonymous with Formula 1 having been one of the circuits in our first ever season and is much-loved by fans and drivers alike, so I am delighted to extend our relationship with them until 2025,” President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali said.
The Vice President and Minister for the Economy of Wallonia also showed excitement on this renewal. “We are proud and excited to announce that Formula 1 Grand Prix will take place in Wallonia in 2025. Our region will once again rise to the top of the international scene, thanks to its high-quality event and legendary sports infrastructure,” he added.
Talking about the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, three-time World Champion Max Verstappen reigned at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit with the Red Bull Racing finishing with a double podium. While Verstappen clocked in 1:22:30.450, his teammate Sergio Perez finished behind him with a difference of 22.305, followed by Charles Leclerc taking the third spot.
