India’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the French Open Badminton 2024 title for the second time on Sunday, March 10. The top-ranked Indian pair clinched the title for the second time in three years after a dominating straight sets win over Chinese Taipei’s pair of Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan at the Adidas Arena in Paris.
The World No. 1 outclassed the pair of Lee and Yang 21-11, 21-17 in 37 minutes to reclaim the title of the Super 750 tournament and also clinched their first title of the season. Moreover, with this win the Indian duo extended their unbeaten record against the Chinese Taipei duo to 3-0. The Indian pair had finished as the runners-up in the 2019 edition before winning the title in 2022.
“It feels really sweet. Paris has always been special for us and we have always played good badminton here and it has been a second home for us. It is a test venue for Olympics but that is still some months away,” Chirag said after the win.
Satwik-Chirag celebrate with special dance moves; video goes viral
The Indian pair of Satwik and Chirag celebrated their Super 750 tournament win in style as the duo broke into some dance moves. While Satwik lifted Chirag in his lap, the former also did a few dance moves with his racquet.
“It all started from Thomas Cup and it became a habit and it has been a long time since we danced. It is after fourth finals. We just wanted to go and have fun and let them earn points and the match,” elated Satwik said post-win.
