As the action of IPL 2021 kicked off for the first time in Abu Dhabi on Monday, there was a lot of uncertainty among everyone about how the wicket will turn out. It was expected that batting won't be that easy at the venue but no one had imagined that it will prove to be so challenging, as it turned out for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
If there is one side that stands out in terms of firepower in the batting department, it is undoubtedly RCB with big names like Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers on the side. As they walked out to bat first, fans were expecting to see some brilliant batting. Unfortunately, everyone saw was a horrible batting collapse, the credit for which is hilariously being given to former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir on social media.
Gautam Gambhir's pre-match prediction goes wrong
Since retiring from cricket, Gautam Gambhir has turned into a commentator and is often seen expressing his expert views and opinions on the game. There is no doubt that his analysis and knowledge of the game are absolutely brilliant and his insights are quite interesting to listen to. However, the 39-year-old does not have a very good record with predictions as they have proven to be wrong on quite a few occasions.
As a result, the fans often consider Gambhir's prediction as a jinx. Ahead of Match 31 between RCB and KKR, he was asked to predict the player whom he thought would hit the maximum number of sixes in the contest. Gambhir named AB de Villiers as his choice and the RCB fans instantly got worried.
As it turned out, AB de Villiers surprisingly got dismissed on a first-ball duck off a scorching yorker by Andre Russell. As soon as ABD got out, the fans jokingly started to hail Gautam Gambhir for being loyal to his team and giving that prediction, which everyone hilariously believed to be the reason behind Mr. 360 having a disappointing outing with the bat.
