Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer, remembered one of the famous quotes of Lord Krishna after he played a key role as a team mentor to help the Kolkata Knight Riders win their third IPL title. In a one-sided final of the IPL 2024 season, KKR chased down the low target of 114 runs against SRH with eight wickets in hand and 57 balls to spare at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
For the unversed, after winning the toss, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, decided to bat first, but their batting lineup crumbled in front of the relentless pressure created by the Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers. Andre Russell picked up three wickets while all his KKR bowling teammates chipped in with a wicket at least, to bundle out SRH for 113 runs inside 19 overs.
In the run chase, Sunil Narine lost his wicket on the second ball, but then, the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Venkatesh Iyer put together a 91-run stand to put the contest beyond SRH. After completing his fifty, Venkatesh Iyer hit the winning runs off the bowling of Shahbaz Ahmed to help KKR win their first IPL title in 10 years.
After the trophy celebrations at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Kolkata Knight Riders mentor took to his official X account to post a famous quote of Lord Krishna in Hindi, the translation of which read, “Whose thoughts and actions are of the truth, Even today Lord Krishna drives his chariot.”
