World Cup winner Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from international football on Friday. The German midfielder confirmed through his Instagram account that the ongoing Euro 2020 is going to be his last appearance for the country. After 106 appearances for Germany, the midfield maestro has decided to hang up his boots and cut down his commitments at the international stage.

Here is his post:

The Real Madrid star made his debut for Die Mannschaft back in 2010 and has since scored 17 goals for them. Kroos, 31, played a major part in lifting the World Cup in 2014 which is the highlight of his international career.

Kross also mentioned in his post that he knew he won’t be able to represent the country in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. “I want to focus fully on my goals with Real Madrid for the next few years,” said Kroos. Another reason for his retirement is he wants to be there more as a husband and dad for his wife and his three children.

In the end, Kroos wished his team all the best for the upcoming matches and thanked all his support staff and coaches over the years. The player will go down as one of the best midfielders Germany have given to international and club football.
