The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League might see 2022 champions Gujarat Titans playing their first few home games at Vadodara’s newly-built stadium. Notably, ever since their inception in 2022, the Titans have emerged as one of the most powerful and superior teams in the cash-rich league. The team won the title in their first year of the competition, and had impressive showings in the next two seasons.
It is to be noted that the side emerged triumphant in their first season under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. In the 2023 season, they once again made their way to the final, but unfortunately suffered a last-ball defeat against Chennai Super Kings in the rain-hit summit clash at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As per latest reports by Crictracker, the team, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill won’t play their first couple of matches in the upcoming season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. Instead, they will head to Vadodara’s newly-built Kotambi Stadium.
Kotambi Stadium of Vadodara to host Gujarat Titans’ first IPL 2025 home games
The reason behind the shift of Gujarat Titans’ first few home games is due to the scheduling of Women’s Premier League (WPL). Reports have been doing rounds that the WPL will be hosted across a couple of phases in two cities, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The second phase of the tournament is expected to be hosted in Motera, with the tournament likely to end on March 9. The IPL 2025 is likely to commence on March 14, and considering the less time between both the fixtures, the team is likely to play their initial home matches in Vadodara.
Notably, the Kotambi Stadium, also known as Baroda International Cricket Stadium is one of the latest cricketing venues in India. It has a seating capacity of around 40,000 spectators. The venue has recently hosted a few domestic games, including Baroda’s home fixtures in Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
