Indian team captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar reportedly had a 2-hour long meeting regarding the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss Hardik Pandya’s fate in the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024. Notably, the 2024 season of the tournament will take place from June 2 to June 29 in the West Indies and the USA. In the tournament, India will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5.
Two months before the tournament, Sharma, Dravid, and Agarkar met for a 2-hour-long meeting, reported The Indian Express. The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss Pandya’s participation in the tournament. The report further stated that the Indian team management is concerned about Hardik’s bowling fitness, and they decided that Pandya would need to bowl regularly in the IPL 2024 to earn a spot in India’s squad.
Notably, during the 17th edition of the IPL, Pandya has only bowled 11 overs in six games and took three tickets. However, the major concern is over his economic rate which is currently 12 per over. Several other media platforms also reported that the Indian selection committee will have another meeting later this month, where they will finalise the squad. In addition to this, the report also stated that Rohit, Dravid, and Agarkar also discussed Shivam Dube as an option, owing to his stunning form in the IPL 2024.
However, as per the reports, a major roadblock in his selection is his bowling as despite being an all-rounder, Dube hasn't bowled in the last two seasons of the IPL 2024.
