Mumbai Indians dropped a bomb before the IPL 2024 auction by sacking their long-standing captain Rohit Sharma from captaincy. The five-time IPL-winning team traded Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya and named him their new skipper. Since then, it was reported that things have gone downhill between Sharma and Pandya. The cold war between the players took a new turn lately when it appeared that both Pandya and Sharma unfollowed each other on Instagram.
The developments come a few days after Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh gave a befitting reply to Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher. In a podcast, Boucher said that replacing Sharma was a cricketing decision and people shouldn’t get emotional about it. Boucher also said that Rohit Sharma wasn’t at his best in the past few seasons.
Rohit Sharma's wife went on to slam the former South Africa batter and commented, “So many things wrong with this”
Have Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma unfollowed each other?
While the five-time IPL-winning captain has remained tight-lipped about the entire incident, he unfollowed Hardik Pandya on Instagram. However, it is not confirmed if the players used to follow each other or if they unfollowed each other recently. After removing Sharma as the captain of the franchise, Mumbai Indians faced backlash and lost almost 4 million followers on social media.
Apart from that, neither Pandya nor Sharma has commented anything about the captaincy change, and it will be interesting to see how things unfold for the Blue Jerseys in the new season of the cash-rich league. Pandya is currently out of the Indian squad due to an injury, while Sharma returned as India’s T20I captain in the T20I series against Afghanistan.
