On Tuesday, September 24, Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women’s team captain, spoke to the media in a press conference at the BCCI headquarters ahead of the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup 2024, starting on October 3 in the UAE. The 35-year-old addressed a question around defending champions Australia, who are in Group A alongside them in the T20 World Cup, stating that her team has a belief that they can beat them any day, any time.

Notably, in the Women's T20 World Cup 2020, India suffered a tough defeat with a margin of 85 runs at the hands of Australia in the final watched by over 80,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In the 2023 edition of the tournament, Australia got the better of India in the semi-final before defeating South Africa in the final, to clinch their sixth and third consecutive T20 World Cup title.

Whenever we are playing against them, we can beat them any day, any time: Harmanpreet Kaur on Australia

Before heading to the UAE to take part in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, Harmanpreet Kaur admitted that the Australian cricket team is good, but at the same time, they know about how her team is quite capable of getting the better of him. She was quoted as saying, as per India Today, “Look their team is good no doubt about that. They also know that India is one of the teams that can go really hard on them. I think that is a really positive sign. We know that whenever we are playing against them, we can beat them any day, any time. Winning the title for so many years, its a great opportunity for us.”

Harmanpreet Kaur also remarked that the Women in Blue are looking to play good cricket in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, in Group A alongside Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, to progress through to the knockout rounds. She said, “They (Australia) know that we are a team that is really good. We just want to play good cricket and be in that frame where we are aware and keep talking about those things that will help us beat them.”

India women’s cricket team, who are yet to win a ICC trophy in their history, will be looking to put an end to the unwanted record with a championship triumph in the UAE next month.
