On Sunday, September 15, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that Harry Brook will be captaining the national team during the upcoming five-match ODI series against Australia. The 25-year-old will be the stand-in captain for England in place of Jos Buttler after the latter got ruled out of the ODI series against Australia due to a persistent calf injury, because of which he hadn’t played any professional cricket since June of this year.
Notably, while preparing to take part in the Hundred as the captain of Manchester Originals, Jos Buttler suffered a calf injury, which ruled him out of the tournament. The English batting superstar was slated to play for Lancashire in the Blast T20 competition, but a setback in his recovery meant that he was not available to play for his county team either.

The English management were hoping to have Jos Buttler on the park during the ongoing T20I series against Australia, but Phil Salt took the charge of the national team in his absence due to persistent calf injury. Now, he will be replaced by Harry Brook as the captain of the England ODI team, who has experience of leading the U-19 Cricket World Cup team in 2018.
Apart from Harry Brook’s ascend to the leadership role, the ECB had to pull out the young pacer Josh Hull from the ODI squad after suffering a quad injury in his debut Test match against Sri Lanka last week. The first of five ODIs between England and Australia is set to begin on September 19 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
