Harry Kane, the Tottenham Hotspur, and England captain has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career both for club and country. Kane surpassed Wayne Rooney’s record of 53 goals for England in March when he scored a penalty in a 2-1 win over Italy in a World Cup qualifier in Naples. Kane then extended his tally to 55 goals in 82 caps three days later, when he scored again in a 2-0 win over Ukraine at Wembley Stadium. The forward expressed his gratitude towards his teammates and manager Gareth Southgate by presenting them with commemorative plaques to mark his achievement.
The Spurs forward decided to show his appreciation to his team-mates and Southgate for their support and contribution to his record by giving them all special gifts during a presentation at St George’s Park on Wednesday. The gifts were plaques shaped like vinyl records with a crack in them, symbolizing his record-breaking feat. It also had the dates and opponents of Kane’s goal on his way to the record.
The vinyl had a picture of Kane and each teammate in the bottom left corner and a personal message of gratitude from the player to each recipient. Kane posed for photos with each of his team-mates and Southgate, who handed him the captaincy in 2017, as he handed them their plaques. The whole squad then gathered for a group photo with their plaques, smiling and applauding their skipper.
Kane shared the photos on his Twitter profile with the caption, “I couldn't have broken the @England all-time goalscoring record without the support of my team-mates and managers who have helped me along the way. This gift is a massive thank you from me to all those who I've shared a changing room with since my debut. Thank you.”
