India have achieved an upper hand in the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park stadium in Kanpur. After taking a lead of 52 runs in the first innings, India bowled Bangladesh out for 146 runs and, as of writing, needed 95 runs to win the series by 2-0. During the second Test, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who was in the commentary box on day five, hailed India skipper Rohit Sharma for his brilliant field placement in the second innings. Notably, Rohit Sharma had placed KL Rahul at leg slip when Ravichandran Ashwin was about to bowl to Mominul Haque.

Rohit Sharma took this decision as Mominul Haque is known for his sweep shots. The plan worked for India as Mominul attempted a sweep shot against Ashwin and ended up giving a catch to Kl Rahul at leg slips. The tactical move by Rohit impressed Sunil Gavaskar, as the former cricketer was quoted as saying “Great captaincy from Rohit Sharma. He fully deserves the credit here, putting a leg slip for someone like Mominul who plays the sweep shot a lot,” by Cricket Lounge.

He must leave MI to final two-three years as captain in IPL: Mohammed Kaif on Rohit Sharma

After Sunil Gavaskar applauded Rohit Sharma for his brilliant captaincy, a video went viral where another former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif was also seen applauding Rohit’s captaincy in the Indian Premier league (IPL). Kaif said that Rohit should play his final two three years in the IPL as a captain. Notably, Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles. However, he was replaced as a captain by Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2024.

“Rohit Sharma must play as a captain in IPL. He has been such a huge player and will have multiple takers. Everybody knows franchises will be talking to him to play for them. Like Hardik Pandya came to Mumbai from Gujarat, Rohit Sharma can also leave. And he must leave [Mumbai Indians]. He must play the final two to three years as captain in IPL," Kaif was quoted as saying by MyKhel.
