Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah opened up on Virat Kohli’s form and his stature in the team ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2045-25 opener. Notably, India are set to lock horns with Australia in the first Test of the elite five-match competition beginning on November 22 in Perth. Bumrah, India’s key fast bowler will shoulder the duties of captaincy for the opening Test in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma, who is currently with his family due to birth of his second child.
Ahead of the opener, Bumrah addressed the media and opened up on the role of talismanic batter and former skipper Virat Kohli. Notably, the 36-year-old is going through a form slump and hasn’t had memorable assignments off late. The modern-day batting icon will aim to make a comeback in the forthcoming series. Bumrah talked about Kohli and said that he is one of the greats the team has. The bowler said, “Virat Kohli is one of the leaders in our team, I made his debut under him. I don’t have to say anything on Virat the batter, he is one of the greats of the game, he is the utmost perfect.” Bumrah continued, “One or two series can go up and down, the confidence he has is incredible, I don’t want to jinx it by saying more (laughs).'

The 30-year-old also talked about donning the captaincy hat and said that pacers are better captains. He said, “I have always advocated for pacers being captains. They are tactically better. Pat has done a phenomenal job. There are a lot of models in the past as well. Kapil Dev and lot of other captains in the past. Hopefully a start of a new tradition.”
Bumrah spoke about being the captain and said, “It is an honour. I have my own style. Virat was different, Rohit was different. and I have my own way. It is a privilege. I don't take it as a position. I love taking responsibility.”
