Manchester United are set to return to Premier League action with a cracking draw up against Nottingham Forest. Manager Ruben Amorim spoke to the press before this high-profile match, talking about multiple topics including the future of club captain Bruno Fernandes. It was recently reported that Spanish giants Real Madrid were looking to sign the Portuguese midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window. However Amorim has recently confirmed that the club is not looking to sell Fernandes and considers him as an integral part of his upcoming project. While Manchester United will be looking at a rebuild in the summer transfer window, Bruno will remain to be untouched in the transfer proceedings.

Speaking to the press, Amorim said, “Bruno will not leave. He’s 30 but he’s still so young because he plays 50,55 games every season. Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 at least. So he’s the type of player that we want here, he’s not going anywhere.” Talking about the current season as well, Bruno Fernandes already has 32 G/A in 44 games across all competitions.

Bruno Fernandes has only been out for 16 days in total due to injury for United

The comments from Amorim about Bruno’s fitness are also very accurate as ever since he moved from Sporting CP to Manchester United in 2020, the 30-year old midfielder has only been out for 16 days. This shows his amazing longevity and resistance to injuries in a period where we see so many frequent instances of players being side-lined for months. Bruno also recently featured for the Portugal national team and provided an assist in their second-leg comeback victory against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League quarter-final.

Talking about the upcoming match, United will travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, who are in blistering form this season. They are currently sitting in third place in the Premier League table with 16 wins while United are 13th in what has been a disastrous season for the Red Devils.
