On November 24, Lucknow Super Giants broke the bank to buy the services of Rishabh Pant for whopping INR 27 Crore, making him the highest paid player in the history of the tournament during the IPL 2025 mega auction at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 27-year-old, who is one of the most swashbuckling wicket-keeper batters in world cricket, was high in demand ahead of the auction due to his captaincy credentials in the IPL, and Lucknow Super Giants got him on board for the 2025 season after Delhi Capitals used their RTM card, which led to a plethora of reactions from fans on the social media platform X.
Notably, Rishabh Pant became an integral part of Delhi Capitals (DC) over the years after making his debut in the IPL with them in 2016, captaining them in the last four seasons. After playing for DC in eight seasons of the IPL, missing one in 2023 due to life-threatening injuries, he scored 3284 runs in 111 matches with a strike-rate of 148.93, which included one hundred and 18 fifties, while ascending to super stardom at the international level at the same time.
The best season with the bat for Rishabh Pant in the IPL with Delhi Capitals came in the year 2018 when he scored 684 runs at an average of 52.61, combined with a strike-rate of 173.60, apart from notching up his first tournament hundred. Meanwhile, his return to the league after missing out the 2023 season was quite a fruitful one with the bat, scoring 446 runs at an average of 40.54 and a strike-rate of 155.40, bringing DC quite close to a playoff qualification as their captain.
