England’s legendary footballer David Beckham posted a special wish for ‘friend’ Virat Kohli on his birthday. Notably, on Tuesday, November 5, former India captain and modern-day batting icon Virat Kohli celebrated his 36th birthday. In his glorious career spanning over a decade, Kohli rose to be one of the most celebrated cricketers around the globe. The Delhi-born cricketer enjoys a huge fan following from all parts of the world, and the list of his admirers include legends from several sporting disciplines.
David Beckham, the former Manchester United icon, is one of the names who not only admires Kohli, but also shares a good bond with the Indian cricketer. The former English footballer took to social media and shared a picture from meeting the cricketer during ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium. He also posted a video of Kohli celebrating his 50th ODI ton. Beckham captioned the Instagram stories, “Happy Birthday my friend @virat.kohli” and “Hope to see you back in India again soon.”
Virat Kohli’s recent form dip
While Virat Kohli’s birthday has been nothing short of a celebration for fans, his struggles with form have been very evident. Kohli is undergoing a dip in form as he managed to score only 192 runs in the last five Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand. In the two-match series against Bangladesh, the talismanic batter could contribute only 99 runs while the number went down to 93 in three Tests against New Zealand.
Notably, India lost the New Zealand series 0-3 and got whitewashed at home for the first time in a three-Test series. Following the defeat, questions have been raised about senior batters including Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma. Kohli will now be a part of India’s squad against Australia for the elite Border Gavaskar Trophy.
