In match 64 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Delhi Capitals (DC) hosted the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, May 14. However, the hosts registered a comfortable 19-run win against the KL Rahul-led side, but their IPL 2024 playoffs hopes are still dented.
Having completed 14 league stage fixtures in the 2024 edition, DC’s hope now remains on the outcomes of other teams. Here in this article, we’ll take a look at all the probability which could help DC enter the playoffs stage.
How can DC qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs?
With 14 points from seven wins and seven losses in 14 games, and net run rate of 0.377, Delhi Capitals are placed fifth in the IPL 2024 points table. Having completed their league stage campaign, DC’s chances to qualify for the playoffs are comparatively slim due to their negative net run rate.
For the Rishabh Pant-led side to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs, they will have to rely on other teams’ results. They can make to the playoffs if SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), currently placed fourth in the points table, lose their remaining matches by a massive margin. This result will only benefit DC if SRH loses by a cumulative margin of close to 200 runs for their NRR to fall below DC.
Moreover, for DC to keep their IPL playoff hopes alive, they will need Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their last league stage fixture, scheduled to be played on May 18, Saturday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Only if the above-mentioned results fall into place, DC have a chance to make it to the IPL 2024 playoffs. But to keep the reality in check, DC are mathematically out of the playoffs race and are highly unlikely to qualify for the next stage of IPL 2024.
