On Monday, November 25, the Indian cricket team registered a dominant 295-run victory on day four of the first Test match against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. With that, India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series, showing a glimpse of hope of making their third straight appearance in World Test Championship (WTC) Final, set to take in June 2025.
Earlier, after a 0-3 drubbing against New Zealand in a home Test series for the first-time ever in history, Team India put their chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final next year at the Lord’s in London in real jeopardy. But their recent win in the all-important series, have put them in the front.
India need to win at least four Test matches against Australia down under in BGT
With the commanding win down under to begin the highly-anticipated Test series on a high, India will now aim to get three more wins to complete a hat-trick of series win in Australia, and confirm their spot for the World Test Championship final in June 2025. Speaking of the scenario after their win in Perth, India need to win the five-match Test series by 4-0 margin to confirm a direct qualification.
While a 4-0 series win will boost their percentage point above 65 per cent, but the scenarios might be looked in depth if other teams come out good. Although, India is in a relatively good position at the moment, they would look for three more wins from the remaining four matches, but Australia cannot be taken lightly.
The hosts, Australia are in second position with 90 points, just 20 points shy of India. For them to secure a place in the summit clash, they would need only four wins from remaining seven Test matches. Moreover, Sri Lanka are also in the race with four Test matches remaining and they needing three wins to reach the WTC Final.
