Former Indian cricketers are disappointed with the way Indian team showed at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, eventually losing the semi-final match against England. Team India suffered yet another exit from the ICC tournament as the wait for one single ICC title since 2011 continues to haunt the Indian cricket fraternity.
Ever since Team India lost the must-win game against England, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is finding himself in the water as he has been facing lot of flak for his performance in the ICC tournament and also for his poor captaincy in the semi-final game.
Meanwhile, a former Indian cricketer has also raised questions on Rohit Sharma participating in a very limited white-ball series before the T20 World Cup 2022. While speaking on Cricbuzz, Ajay Jadeja said that he was surprised with the way Rohit Sharma was continuously rested from the tours, while Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan were given opportunities to lead the squad.
“I would say one thing which hurt Rohit Sharma. If you have to make a team as captain, you have to stick with the side for the entire year. How many series did Rohit Sharma play this year? I am not saying this in hindsight, I have been saying this since before,” said Jadeja.
The former Indian cricketer further claimed that he is also surprised with the fact that head coach Rahul Dravid is once again rested from the upcoming New Zealand tour.
“Having one leader in the squad always helps to build the right team. If there are seven and one new captain for every new series, that will make the situation difficult,” concluded Jadeja. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma too admitted that his side failed to show up required character against England and succumbed to pressure despite having enough experience of playing in such situation.
“Yes absolutely, it is disappointing how we turned up today. I though we still batter well towards the end. I think when it comes to knock out stages, we constantly failed to perform and handle pressure. All these players play in such situation during IPL. As an individual they need to introspect that what went wrong,” said Rohit Sharma during post-match presentation.
