Former India batter Sunil Gavaskar thrashed young Indian cricketer Shubman Gill for his ridiculous dismissal in third and final Test against New Zealand. Notably, on Sunday, November 3, Tom Latham-led New Zealand scripted history as they became the first ever team to whitewash India 3-0 in a Test series on Indian soil. The loss brought the Indian team under heavy criticism by fans and pundits alike. The second innings of the game saw India’s top-order batter Shubman Gill getting dismissed in a very odd way.
In the second innings of the game, Gill couldn’t continue his run-scoring form and was clean bowled by Ajaz Patel, who ended up picking an 11-wicket haul in the entire game. Gill failed to read the ball delivered by the Kiwi and eventually, it ended up hitting the stumps. This dismissal put the batter in hot waters and he received a thrashing from the legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar. The former batter absolutely refused to mince his words and said that this is not the first time that Gill has got out like this. Gavaskar said, "How many times have we seen Gill get out leaving the ball. To spinners, to fast bowlers... judgement of which ball to leave, which ball to play is something he will have to work on.”
I wasn't at my best with both bat and as a captain: Rohit Sharma after series loss against New Zealand
After registering a loss against New Zealand, Indian batter Rohit Sharma accepted that he failed to deliver his best as a captain as well as a batter. In the post-match interview, Sharma said, “Losing a Test is never easy, it's something that's not easily digestible. Again, we didn't play our best cricket, we know and we have to accept. They (New Zealand) did so much better than us throughout the series. We made a lot of mistakes and we'll have to accept it. We didn't put enough runs on the board in the 1st innings (in Bengaluru and Pune) and we were very much behind in the game, here, we got a 30-run lead, we thought we were ahead, the target was achievable as well, all we had to do was to show a bit of application which we failed to do.”
He added, “From a personal point of view, I wasn't at my best with both bat and as a captain, that's something that'll rankle me. But, we didn't perform well collectively and that's the reason for these losses.”
