In the first Test of the two-match series, South Africa got the better of India by a comprehensive margin of an innings and 32 runs after their batters and bowlers delivered one of their best performances in recent memory. David Bedingham scored 56 in his first ever Test innings, stitching together a match-defining partnership of 131 runs with Dean Elgar for the fourth wicket.

The rising sensation in South Africa cricket named his heroes from childhood days and how they impacted his career thus far. He was quoted as saying, as per the PTI report, “Definitely Herschelle Gibbs. Jacques Kallis was from my school (Wynberg Boys’ High) … or, I was from his school. So I tended to watch those two.”

“My two favourites among Indian players are Sharma and Kohli. I think when I was between 13-18, I was trying to mould my technique like theirs (Kallis and Gibbs) and when I had a bad game, I changed my technique to copy Kohli’s or try probably Sharma’s,” said David Bedingham.

He has this to say about their interactions, “I think we talked a lot. I think he refrained from talking about cricket a lot. He spoke about dealing with pressures, speaking to a world-class player like him did help handle the pressure better during the first Test.”

David Bedingham has the experience of competing in nearly 90 first-class matches, scoring around 6,000 runs in the process.
