Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Glenn Maxwell joked about how Virat Kohli shouldn't be picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 talking about reports that BCCI may not consider the former captain for the showpiece event in the USA and West Indies. Further several have questioned his batting ability and his poor strike rate this year creating further doubt on his selection.
During his appearance on the Around The Wicket hosted by Neroli Meadows and former Australia cricket Callum Ferguson, Maxwell called Kohli the' most clutch player' and then joked about how he hopes that the Indian team doesn't pick him.
I hope India don't pick him: Maxwell on rumours about Kohli missing T20 World Cup
Maxwell said, "Virat Kohli is the most clutch player I have ever played against. The innings he played against us in Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup is still the best innings I have ever seen been played against me. His awareness of what he needs to do to win the game is just phenomenal. I hope India don't pick him because it will be great to not come up against him."
There should be heat on every player: Maxwell on pressure faced by every Indian player
Glenn Maxwell also reasoned why these reports about Kohli being possibly dropped surfaced. The Victorian opined how India has a massive population which tends to produce countless world-class talents and hence the current players in the national team may be under pressure.
He said, "It's not surprising because there are 1.5 billion and I reckon half of them are unbelievable cricketers in this country (laughs). It's a hard team to get into. You look at India's top T20 players which are all playing in this tournament. They are phenomenal players and there should be heat on every player."
