Tom Kim produced one of the funniest viral moments in Golf at the 2023 PGA Championship when he suffered an unfortunate accidental fall during the weather-delayed first round of the tournament. The South Korean golfer is already a popular name in the sport and bolstered his appeal when he fell into a creek at Oak Hill and came out with his shirt and legs covered in mud. However, the 20-year-old thought the incident got unnoticed, but by the time he got to know the truth, he had already gotten viral on social media.
When Tom was asked about the incident in a post-match interaction, he joked that he missed the time when there used to be no cameras around while playing golf.
After his round, the world number 19 appeared in an interview and said that he thought there won’t be anyone to see this, and the incident would go completely unnoticed. He said, "You know, I miss days when I played on a tour without cameras. I t’s a major championship and I’m fighting for every single stroke. It could be the difference between me having a chance to win on Sunday or making the cut. I was told it was in the mud. And if I’m able to hit a shot, I’m doing everything I can to do it. So, I definitely tried. But it was very unfortunate."
He went on to say, "I couldn’t even find the ball. I was talking to Joe (Skovron, his caddie), I might just go in the water and wash myself off. I took a bath over there. I felt like it was going to be better than just having mud, so I thought it was going to be better for me to wash my pants off."

He also added, "After that incident, I was talking to Sam (Burns) and he was like, 'I hope there was cameras out'. Well, I thought it was too late in the afternoon, no one is going to be out here. Clearly, I was wrong because it's a Major championship and it's 8.30 at night and you guys got all of it."
During the sixth hole, Kim fell victim to the tricky conditions of the course at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. Post one side of the hole, there is a marshy zone, and Kim went to inspect the area to see if he could play his shot, he trod in a soggy patch and fell into the muddy mess. When he came out, he was completely covered in mud and decided to wash off his feet.
