A day after Imad Wasim made a U-turn from retirement, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir announced himself available for the T20I World Cup 2024. Amir came out of retirement for his national side and is set to participate in the marquee tournament. Amir announced his retirement from international cricket on December 17, 2020, and since then, he has been participating in the PSL and other domestic tournaments.
The 2024 edition of the T20I World Cup is set to begin on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies. Amir last played a match for Pakistan in a T20I against England in 2020 and announced his retirement stating that he felt mentally tortured. The 31-year-old recently participated in the 2024 PSL, where he scalped 10 wickets in nine games with an economy of 8.41 for his side, Quetta Gladiators. On March 23, all-rounder Imad Wasim reversed his retirement and also made himself available for selection for the T20 World Cup.

Amir announced coming out of retirement for the T20I World Cup and said that he had some discussions with the PCB. In a tweet, Amir announced, “I still dream to play for Pakistan!” He added, “Life brings us to the points where at times we have to reconsider our decisions, There has been few positive discussions between myself and the PCB where they respectfully made me feel that I was needed and can still play for Pakistan after discussing with family and we'll wishers I declare that I am available to be considered for upcoming t20WC, I want do this for my country as it comes before my personal decisions.”
Amir added, “Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be my greatest aspirations.” Before retirement, the 31-year-old had played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is and scalped a total of 259 international wickets.
