Australian wicketkeeper  Matthew Wade  recently revisited his recent incident with Mark Wood during the 1st T20I against England. The Gujarat Titans player described that moment to be horrible. The incident took place on the third ball of the 17th over as Australia was chasing 209 when England fast bowler Mark Wood bowled a short ball to  Wade who top-edged it.

However, as the ball went up and where both the bowler and the keeper came rushing forward to grab it, Wood was blocked by Wade. The Aussie was seen lifting his left arm in front of Wood’s face, which hindered his attempt. The ball could have also come back on the stumps as well. The umpires came together and decided to give the player a pass and did not comply with the obstructing field rule.

Now, speaking on The Unplayable Podcast,  Matthew Wade  talked about how he was dazed when the top edge hit his helmet before going up in the air.

“Then I wasn’t sure if I was going to get run out or where the actual ball was. It all just happened literally like that. And then the next minute, I was on the ground, looked up and the ball was like coming down. If I had a conscious thought of doing it, then I’d be regrettable for doing it. If they had appealed and I saw it on the replay, so be it, I would have walked off the ground, there’s not much I could do about it,” he stated.

Moments after the game, England captain Jos Buttler was asked about not appealing for the obstruction of play. He said he did not look at the incident and was looking at the ball. Buttler also saw that he didn’t want to create any controversy as they had just arrived in Australia.

He said, “I didn’t really see what happened, We’ve only just got to Australia too so I thought, just carry on in the game.”
