Stokes was in great form ahead of the World Cup with a stunning 189-run knock against New Zealand. But with his extended left knee injury, Stokes hasn’t been part of England’s playing XI so far in the tournament. Hence Jos Buttler, England's captain, ahead of the Bangladesh game shared how Stokes has been recovering well.

As quoted by the BCC, Buttler shared Ben Stokes has been "progressing well… he is doing more and more each day and seems to be improving, so it is good signs." But Buttler clarified at his pre-match press conference: "It's good to see him back in the nets and building back towards full fitness, but he's probably unlikely for tomorrow."

Stokes initially wanted to spend two months preparing his body for the World Cup by resting his knee, but in August, he changed his mind. Commenting on coming back for the World Cup, Stokes had said, "The words 'World Cup' are pretty inspiring. The idea of going in and potentially being able to win back-to-back World Cups was one of the big things."
