Former Italian footballer and Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini has made his choice in ongoing debate on the best footballer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The 40-year-old hailed Portuguese star, Ronaldo over Messi when he was asked to choose from one for a final at The Overlap on Tour podcast on YouTube. However, he also refrained from deciding who is the best player from both of them.

Giorgio Chiellini said that Cristiano elevates his games according to the situation when his team needs it the most. The former footballer also believes that the Portuguese also has a courage to win the game single-handedly even when his team is losing. Notably, Chiellini was Ronaldo’s teammate during his time at Serie A club Juventus from 2018 to 2021.

Well, Ronaldo, when you are losing, he had the balls: Giorgia Chiellini

Talking about Lionel Messi, Giorgia Chiellini didn’t pair-up with the Argentine skipper in his football career, but the two have clashed against each other four times in both club and international football. In his latest podcast, Chiellini backed his former Juventus teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and picked Al Nassr forward to play a final.

"We cannot say for me, who is better, Messi or Cristiano. But if I have to pick one, for a final, Cristiano. I love to play with Cristiano. And I saw when the game is more difficult, he raises his level of performance,” Chiellini was quoted as saying by Republic World.

"Well, Ronaldo, when you are losing, he had the balls, no matter what, to try to win. Shoot from everywhere in order to lead the team to win. And it is not easy to do for a lot of players. I loved to play with him because working with him and looking at him every day, with little details, is very nice,’ the former Italian footballer said.
