In the Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and Bangladesh at the iconic Dubai International Stadium, Rohit Sharma gave a ferocious start to his side while following a score of 229. India skipper stood at the crease and delivered a score of 41 runs off just 36 balls, with seven fours. His batting efforts helped the Men in Blue accumulate 69 runs in the first 10 overs. The 37-year-old departed while attacking pacer Taskin Ahmed. Following his dismissal, Virat Kohli walked into the middle. Team India supporters were expecting the star batter to complete his 14000 ODI runs in the game.
But Kohli failed to tackle pressure and fell cheaply to Rishad Hossain after amassing 22 runs off 38 balls. In his sluggish and brief innings, the 36-year-old scored only one boundary. Facing Rishad in the 23rd over of the innings, Kohli looked to breach the gap between the point and cover but ended up giving an easy catch to Soumya Sarkar, who was deployed in the position. Following Kohli’s failure, Team India fans displayed their anger and compared Kohli's innings with Rohit's. An X user named Prathmesh posted the pictures of both veterans’ innings and wrote “If you have eyes then please I BEG Don't compare Virat kohli with Rohit Sharma again.”
Check out how fans reacted on Virat Kohli's cheap dismissal in CT 2025 opener against Bangladesh:
India stumble after getting rapid start
India started in a swift manner as Rohit Sharma took the Bangladesh bowling unit to the cleaners. However, Kohli’s lethargic innings affected the two-time title winners. After the dismissals of both veterans, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel also couldn’t leave an impact. Iyer walked back to the dugout after scoring 15 (17) while Axar racked up only eight from his bat.
Currently, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have got the responsibility to complete the task. As of writing, India needed 54 runs off 73 balls. Gill is playing at the score of 76 off 102 while KL Rahul is at 11 after facing 23 balls.
