Amidst the blockbuster Indian Premier league (IPL) 2025 action, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Instagram and put a post cited to Indian Express, which released its list of 100 most powerful Indians. The list included the names of the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah along with Team India players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah. Following the Champions Trophy 2025 victory, Rohit’s popularity has skyrocketed as he became the only captain of the national side to win two ICC trophies in a row. Back in 2024, he delivered the T20 World Cup to Team India fans after 17 years with his leadership prowess. The India skipper holds the 48th spot on it.

India batting legend Virat Kohli has also found the spot on the list as his fan following has been massive among Indians. The right-handed batter was an integral part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, chipping in with 76 (59) in the final against South Africa. His position is 72nd on the list. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded India’s fast-bowling unit valiantly during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and showed why he is one of the best pacers in the business. He has also made it to the chart of most powerful Indians in 83rd spot.

Jay Shah rises to 24th spot on elite list of Most Powerful Indians

Jay Shah, who has emerged as an influential figure in cricket in recent years, has ranked 24th on the list. In December 2024, he became the ICC chairman replacing Greg Barclay. Under Shah’s chairmanship, the apex-cricketing body organised its first major tournament ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which was played in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9, 2025.

Shah was also BCCI secretary from 2019 to 2024 and under his stint, the board organised ICC World Cup 2023 successfully and earned a massive profit from the competition. Under his term, IPL became the second most valued sporting league globally in terms of per-match value.
