The Indian football team has flourished a lot under the mentorship of coach Igor Stimac lately. The team has recently been granted approval to participate in the forthcoming Asian Games. Not only this, but the dynamics of Indian football have undergone drastic changes under their Croatian coach in recent years, which includes wins in several tournaments, including notable victories in Intercontinental Cup and the SAFF Cup. Meanwhile, Stimac has a brighter vision for the team, and he aims to take Indian football to greater heights.
Stimac has assured Indian fans that he will take the team to better rankings on the international pedestal in the next four years. However, the only thing that he expects from the fans is to trust him. Stimac recently made a statement and said, “I will take India to the top 80 in FIFA rankings and to the top 10 in Asia rankings.
However, the football manager has asked his fans to trust him or else he would be happy to part on good terms. He continued, “But, you need to trust me or else we can part as friends.” Notably, Stimac has been at the helm of the Indian team since 2019, and it goes without saying that Indian football has achieved several milestones under his mentorship.
The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) extended his contract until the AFC Asian Cup 2023. Meanwhile, his tenure with the Sunil Chhetri-led team has been full of several controversial incidents, one being the recently-concluded SAFF Cup 2023 in Kuwait, when he was handed a red card for interfering in a match.
