On September 2, India, under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, will square off against Babar Azam’s boys at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Ahead of the game, Akram was roped in by Fox Cricket where he said that Pakistan’s ace batsman Azam has the potential to be the ‘modern-day great’ but currently, Kohli is better than him.
The former Pakistan skipper said, “It is a very difficult decision, that is why I don’t become a selector. I’ll probably get a lot of slack back home, but I will definitely pick Virat Kohli over Babar Azam.” He went on to say, “Babar is on the way, there is no doubt. He is one of the modern greats, but it will take some time. He will catch up, but it will take time.”
Notably, Pakistan opened their campaign in the continental tournament by defeating Nepal by a huge 238-run margin. On Saturday, the neighbouring sides will lock horns in the ODI format after a gap of four years, after last having met in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
