The MI Emirates has announced the signing of four local players for the inaugural season of the International League T20 (ILT20) in January 2023. The new players who will be seen in the blue and gold jersey are Muhammad Waseem, Basil Hameed, Vriitya Aravind and Zahoor Khan.


The Mumbai Indians-owned franchise will be led by former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard. The team also has several other Caribbean stars like Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran and Andre Fletcher. The MI Emirates also includes New Zealand’s Trent Boult, who was part of the Mumbai Indians side in the IPL.

Talking about the recently acquired UAE players, Muhammad Waseem is one of the top batters in the country and is ranked 14th on the ICC men’s T20 batters rankings. Basil Hameed is an off-spinning all-rounder who has played for UAE in all formats. Zahoor Khan is a veteran UAE fast bowler who has played 37 ODIs and T20Is. Vriitya Aravind is a top-order batter with more than 500 runs in T20I and is also the Vice-Captain for UAE. 

Like the Mumbai Indias, MI Emirates also boasts of a star-studded coaching staff with New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond as the head coach. Former Indian all-rounder Robin Singh has been named as the team’s General Manager. The Indian duo of Parthiv Patel and Vinay Kumar have been named as the batting and bowling coaches of the team. While former Mumbai Indians and New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin is the fielding coach.
