The 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy started in stunning fashion as Australia put India on the ropes as the hosts lost 5 wickets on 45 in the first session. The pitch, which looked like a batting paradise at the start, soon showed its true colors as the cracks started to open in the first 10 minutes of the game. Australian spinners extracted spin from the 5th over as Team India crumbled. Virat Kohli and KS Bharat tried to stick around but the trio of Nathon Lyon, Todd Murphy, and Matthew Kuhnermann ruled the roost.
Shubman Gill, who replaced KL Rahul, had started well for the hosts before his dismissal on 21. However, Gill got a painful bruise during his innings when he was trying to sneak a single.
The 23-year-old dived to complete a single in the 7th over and got hurt. The Physio was called onto the pitch to provide aid to the Indian opener. However, in the very next over, Gill, as was sent back to the pavilion by Kuhnemann.

Meanwhile, former Australian cricketer Mark Waugh criticised the pitch and said that it is not up to Test standards. Notably, a puff of dust started to come off in the first over itself when Mitchell Starc started bowling.
