Team India registered a thrilling win in the 1st ODI against New Zealand on Wednesday. After posting a mammoth 349 in the first innings courtesy of a stunning double-century from Shubman Gill, Team India was made to sweat hard for victory by NZ's lower order. Michael Bracewell scored a brilliant century and almost took his side home but Shardul Thakur kept his calm and took the big wicket in the final over to give India a 1-0 lead.

Analysis
Team India has been almost unbeatable at home. Young players like Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Mohammed Siraj have performed exceptionally well for the side in limited-overs cricket. However, Team India's struggle to dismiss the opposition's lower order is still a big headache for the management. In the first ODI as well, Team India looked in complete control when they reduced New Zealand to 131/6.
However, Bracewell along with Mitchell Santner then stitched over the 150-run partnership and almost took the game away from the hosts. Rohit Sharma will be hoping for a better show from Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya with the ball as the duo went for plenty. Shardul Thakur, who was also expensive with the ball, is likely to get replaced by Umran Malik in the 2nd ODI.
Meanwhile, New Zealand would be proud of how their lower order performed in a big run-chase. However, the top order needs to fire to keep the hosts at their toe from the start.
