India A defeated Bangladesh A by 31 runs to win the Women’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup 2023 on June 21, Wednesday at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong. This tournament had eight out of 15 matches washed out due to rain, but still, it gave the young women players from Asia the chance to showcase their skills and improve their game for the long run.
Earlier today, the Indian captain Shweta Sehrawat got the toss right in the final of the Women’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup 2023 and decided to bat first at Mission Road Ground. The 19-year-old opened the batting for India A alongside U Chetry and gave a steady start to the team in the powerplay phase.
But, in the sixth over, the big wicket of Shweta Sehrawat fell as Nahida Akter of Bangladesh A castled her. Dinesh Vrinda came out to bat at the number three slot for India A to provide some much-needed impetus to the innings. She top-scored for the side with 36 runs off 29 deliveries, including five fours and one maximum.
During the middle overs, India A lost some quick wickets, but Kanika Ahuja put together a quick-fire 30 and batted till the end to help them put up a respectable score of 127/7 in their allotted 20 overs at Mong Kok.
While defending the target, the bowlers were clinical from start to finish as they didn’t allow Bangladesh A to have any momentum in their batting innings. Mannat Kashyap picked up three wickets for India A, including both the opening batters of the opposition.
After the powerplay phase, it was the indomitable Shreyanka Patil who stole the show for India A with the ball in the final, picking up four wickets in four overs at a brilliant economy of 3.25. She was ably supported by Kanika Ahuja, who took a couple of important wickets in the Bangladesh A innings to help bundle them out for a paltry score of 96 in 19.2 overs.
