The 2024 edition of Olympics kicked off on Friday, July 26, in French capital, Paris with a grand ceremony at river Seine. The Games officially kickstarted on Saturday, July 27 with India also beginning its campaign in rowing, shooting, boxing, badminton, among other sports. While Balraj Panwar and Manu Bhaker’s performance stood out on Day 1 of the Summer Games, Indian shooters dominated on Day 2.  

On Sunday, July 28, Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta qualified for the final of the women’s and men’s 10m air rifle even respectively, Manu Bhaker clinched India’s first medal, finishing just 0.1 point behind South Korea. Apart from them, there were several other standout performances on Day 3 of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Manu Bhaker

India’s Manu Bhaker, who had qualified for the final of women’s 10m air pistol at the Paris Olympics, finally ended India’s 12-year wait for a medal in shooting. The 22-year-old settled for a bronze and also became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal at the Summer Games.

India’s defense personnel, Balraj Panwar, who had qualified for the repechage round of the men’s sculls event, earned a qualification in the quarterfinals after finishing second in the repechage round on Sunday, July 28. He finished second with a timing of 7:12.41, just behind Mongolia to advance into the next round.

Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula

The Indian table tennis stars, Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula dominated their respective matches to enter Round of 32 at the Paris Olympics 2024. Sreeja Akula started her Paris Olympics 2024 campaign with an 11-4, 11-9, 11-7 and 11-8 win over Swedish star Christina Kallberg. Meanwhile, Manika Batra defeated Anna Hursey from Great Britain with a scoreline of 11-8, 12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5.

The two-time Olympic medallist, who is eyeing for a hat-trick of wins at the Paris Olympics, PV Sindhu edged past her Maldives opponent Fathimath Nabaaha Razzaq in just 29 minutes. The Indian shuttler faced no trouble in winning the game, 21-9, 21-6.
