Speaking about the format, the sport will be played in the T20 format. The Asian Games is slated to be hosted in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, and though the schedule of the World Cup is yet to be announced, it is most likely to be hosted from October 5 to November 23. According to reports by Indian Express, the BCCI will send the list of the players to the Indian Olympic Association by June 30. Notably, cricket was a part of the Asiad in 2010 and 2014 editions, but the BCCI did not field any team during the seasons. However, the sport was dropped in the 2018 edition, held in Jakarta.

This will be for the third time that India’s cricket governing body will field two different teams at the same time. Earlier, in 1998, one Indian cricket team competed at the Commonwealth Games, while the other played in the Sahara Cup. Not only this, but Shikhar Dhawan also led a second-string team for a series in Sri Lanka, while the senior team was competing against England in a Test series.
