India’s premier racewalker, Akshdeep Singh, has been dropped from India's athletics squad and replaced by Vikash Singh. The exact details of the athlete’s injury are unknown further adding a cloud over so as to when will he return to full fitness.
Last month's World Athletics Championships in Budapest was disappointing for Akshdeep Singh, who finished clocking 1:31:12s. In March at the Asian Race-Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan, Singh had won the gold medal in the men's 20km event with a time of 1:20:57. Vikash Singh, who also advanced to the World Championships final, achieved a faster time of 1:21:58s.
Akshdeep Singh became the first Indian to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics as he set a national record, clocking 1:19:55s at the 10th National Open Race-Walking Championship held in Ranchi. His replacement, Vikash Singh, finished second in the open category men's section of the Asian 20km Race Walking Championships earlier this year, clocking 1:20:05. The qualifying mark of the 2024 Paris Olympics was 1:20:10.

Quarter-miler Prachi and 3000m steeplechaser Priti Lamba have been added to India’s squad for the Asian Games, which will begin in Hangzhou, China, later this month. Prachi was third in the women’s 400m at the Indian Grand Prix in Chandigarh and has been included in the 4x400m relay team.
